NeedI'm a moral, upstanding citizen. Aren't you? Of course you are. You've never murdered anyone, have you? You've never stolen anything--at least not anything that anyone would miss. You're generally civil to other people. The trouble is, we who are moral, upstanding citizens are hardest to convince of a need. What do we need? We have everything we need. Okay, maybe we have known hard times. But we've gotten by. And now we're cruising the Internet. If we had a real need, we wouldn't have this computer in front of us-- or the time to use it. But what about when that time runs out? Maybe then we'll learn what need means. Because we don't know what's on the other side, do we? Or do we? Do we have everything we need for that side of the fence? Maybe nobody knows. Maybe nobody can know. But maybe Somebody does. Unless we're absolutely sure we can't know, our highest priority in this life should be to find out. Because if there's an eternity on the other side, it will make this life seem like a millisecond. So the information we need to make that decision is the most important information in the world.
