Big Birthday

I'm about to celebrate a birthday. A big one. A really big one. Here's a tip in guessing which birthday it is: don't. That tip is mostly for men. Women already know it.

Hey, but do you know how you can know that a woman is somewhere around 50? One way is that she'll finally admit she's 35.

Yep, coming up on my "35th" birthday. Here's another tip for the guys. The correct response to that statement is: "Why, you certainly don't look it." That way you can be honest (because, really, what 50-year-old woman looks 35?). And yet you can still be innocently, yet semi-deceptively complimentary at the same time.

Actually, I've been a little worried that if I hide my age too long, people will eventually figure out something's up when my children are suddenly older than I am.
Speaking the truth in love is what the Bible tells us to do. And that's always the best policy. Ephesians 4:15 says, "Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church" (NLT).

Truth and love. That's the way to head for our ultimate goal, to grow more and more like Christ. And that never gets old. Unlike some people I know. Or some people I am.
