You Expect Me to Believe This?I love thinking about an angel announcing to Zachariah that even though he and his wife were senior citizens, they would be adding on a nursery. The angel told him that his son would get people ready for the Messiah. Zechariah's response? In one version, it's phrased, "You expect me to believe this?" "Say what?" might be a good interpretation. Or maybe even "Nuh uh." Or "Get out." I just wonder if Zachariah was raised in the southern part of Judea. There the response could be something more like, "Well shut my mouth." Which is exactly what happened. He couldn't speak a word (one of the ultimate punishments in my book) not because of his surprise. It was more than that. It was because of his unbelief. Just a reminder that we CAN believe. God did something practically unbelievable. He provided our salvation through his own Son, Jesus Christ. And oh yes, we can believe that our miracle-working God still does the unbelievable. That means for every "nuh-uh" we can give a hearty "yuh-huh" right back.
