Star of Wonder!I was participating recently in the dedication of a hotel in my town. A TV reporter covering the festivities asked me about my impressions of the day. The discussion turned to my history as a business owner and community leader for more than half a century. I'd been thinking during the days approaching the hotel dedication about how my life has changed and progressed during those years. I co-owned several small businesses when I was barely out of high school. My lifelong business partner and I started a venture from our homes and built it into an international corporation. I became involved with the rebirth of my city's downtown more than 30 years ago and have seen our community continue to add to the impressive skyline. So I told that TV reporter that my theme for that dedication day was "The Wonder of it All." I look at my life with wonder! A marriage of more than 50 years, four successful adult children, 16 grandchildren, many friendships and wonderful communities in which I live. I reflected on how God has blessed me with talents that have had an impact on my hometown and the lives of people around the world. What are the wonders in your life? They need not be significant at first glance. But think about your life. Perhaps your wonder is a talent that has enabled you to enjoy a vocation that has given you fulfillment and supported a family. Maybe you think about how you met your spouse and reflect with wonder how that moment led to a happy marriage with the one person in the world who was meant for you. You might marvel at the change of seasons or the positive changes in your children as they grow into adulthood. We take for granted all the ordinary things in life that, when carefully considered, we realize are truly wonders. The stars appear on every clear night, yet we seldom take the time to wonder at the incomprehensible size of the universe or how those stars were hung in the sky. Our abundance of food nourishes us every day, but often we give little thought about how most of it grew from tiny seeds. Just because a baby is born into this world every few seconds makes the event no less a wonder. I reflect with wonder on an event that happened more than two thousand years ago. A baby was born in a stable. Three kings traveled from afar guided by the star of wonder on their journey to see the newborn King. Shepherds paid homage. Angels sang. And God came to earth when Jesus Christ was born. Wonders are all around us. This is the season of the star of wonder. The creator of the universe was born a human on earth! The Good News continues to be shared to this day! In this season of wonder let's dwell on that, and appreciate the abundant wonders we find in our own lives.
