Purple Potatoes

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9, Isaiah 64:4

On Saturdays, from May to October, the town hosts a street market. This morning, tents and booths lined either side of two blocks. Streets were closed off to traffic. Despite the rain and frosty air, people were enjoying the fresh air, each other, and the vendors' products.

From neighboring farms, there were fruits and vegetables so fresh and luscious looking. Brilliant colors, and huge dahlias were so eyecatching. What could be more beautiful than succulent, full ripe tomatoes, or bold orange carrots when the dirt gets washed off them. Velvety green beans, bumpy gold squashes. Wow.

Purple potatoes were new ones on me. We bought a couple to try, and they were sweet and as good as they looked.

Isn't it really neat how God is into the details? He didn't just design food that is nutritious for us, although that would have been enough. He made it to delight us as well. Pleasing to the eye as well as all the senses He created in us.

In everyday surroundings, in our homes, workplaces, gardens, towns and cities, there are beautiful things for us to see that God has made. We don't have to go to a museum, although that is nice. We don't have to go to a National Park, even though they are wonderful.

And the Bible promises us that one day, we will see things that are beyond anything we could ever imagine. Like purple potatoes....and way better.
