Good-bye to OtisA day I hoped would never occur, has. Our beloved canine companion of sixteen years, Otis, will be "put to sleep" tomorrow. It is, of course, something I do not want to do, but believe must be done because of his degrading heath which has made it impossible for him to function normally. He cannot walk, eat or drink without assistance. His eye-sight is poor, and his incontinence is becoming more frequent. Upon discussing our dog's fate within our family circle, it was finally decided that Otis has been too loyal and good a friend to allow him to suffer further. We also determined that if this was going to have to happen, we desire it to be done as gently and peacefully as possible. As such, our veterinarian will make a house call tomorrow, and while surrounded and embraced by the people who love him the most, we will say so-long to our wonderful furry friend for one last time. Saying good-bye to someone or something that we are attached to is not always easy. However, as with our situation with Otis, there are times in life it is simply necessary to let go. Releasing the grip of sin within our lives can be like this as well, for we often get used to giving in to temptations and desires. We may want to stop, and turn over a new leaf, but we may not know how, or we just aren't sure we are willing to do what it takes to be pleasing in God's sight. Prayer: "Dear God, I admit that I am weak, and that I have sometimes failed You. I have been living for myself, and making bad choices. I want to know You better, God, and I believe You can give me the strength I need to turn my life around. I know it will not be easy, but it is something I now see I must do if I am to be saved. I ask this of You, in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen."
