Jesus Christ And Him Crucified - Message #343

There are many theories about Jesus Christ. Some people think he was just a man. Others believe that Jesus Christ was the very first created being, a god with a small "g". Then there are those who believe that when Jesus Christ came into the world that He emptied himself of all deity. These people think Jesus regained deity through His obedience. Of course, this means that mortal humans like you and me can also become gods, with a small "g", through our obedience.

All of these theories are exactly that, mere theories! You see, the teaching of the Bible is that Jesus Christ was and is both God and man with two distinct natures in one person! Before Jesus Christ entered the world, He was with God the Father and was equal with God the Father. Listen, the Bible describes the Father speaking to the Son in this way, "But of the Son, He says, Thy throne O God, is forever and ever" (Hebrews 1:8). In other words, the Father calls the Son "God". If God Himself says this, we ought to accept it. This same Jesus took to Himself a human body so that "in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily" (Colossians 2:9). This means that those who looked at Jesus saw a man. He was and is "the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). But these same people also saw God. As Jesus said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father" (John 14:9). What could be clearer? The Father called Him God. Jesus said when you looked at Him, you saw the Father.

All of this is so important. Why? Think about it! Only humanity could be a proper sacrifice for the sins of human beings. Only divinity could be an adequate sacrifice for sins against the infinite God.
