Our Own HappinessOur nineteen-year-old-daughter is coming to better understand that, for the most part, we are the keepers of our own happiness. For years Lindsey has been bothered by her excess weight, and while she expressed a desire to be in healthier physical shape, she did little to change what obviously displeased her. When she would come to me expressing frustration at her inability to lose, I would say, "You CAN be healthier if you want to, but you have to be in the right mind frame. When you really WANT to do it, you WILL." I am proud to say that this truth has finally hit home with Lindsey, and she is slowly but surely reaching for a higher health standard for her life. She has already lost twenty-two pounds! Lindsey relayed to me how difficult it was at first to reach for a salad instead of a greasy pizza, or to say, "No thanks," to the sweets and treats she had enjoyed in the past. However, it is obvious to see that once she gathered up the motivation and turned her desire in to action, the payoff was not only improved health, but a sense of accomplishment which, of course, boosted her self-confidence. Just as it took our daughter a while to understand the cause and effect of bad eating habits, so too do many people wrestle with issues in their own lives which rob them of the peace and happiness they could be having. Sadly, it is often by their own hands and wrongful choices. The time to break free and reach for that higher standard is today! Yes, God is good, and He is indeed miraculous, but it is OUR responsibility to choose sickness over health, and goodness over sin. Is something bothering you, pulling you down, and robbing you of the ecstatic life you could be living? Then look upward, my friend. Call out to God, and ask Him to give you the strength and motivation to change what is inward. Positive change is a decision away.
