Known Danger

Recently I was in the back yard completing a few odds and ends of my "spring clean up" program. I stumbled over a heavy piece of wire, and picked it up to discard it. I walked around the yard a bit, placing the wire on the crosstie steps as I checked the blue bird house. After I finished this chore, I started back up the steps. I tripped right over that piece of rusty old wire, almost jabbing myself with it.

Now, I knew the wire was on those steps; I had put it there myself. Had I just ignored or forgotten it ? It was difficult to see, as the color blended in well with the steps, but that was really no excuse to allow it to trip me! I knew the danger was there, but I just plowed on ahead, at my usual fast pace.

I also know there are dangers which can trip me in my Christian growth- things which can hurt me if I am not careful to avoid them. Most of these dangers blend in so very well with our secular world that, even when we are aware of them, they can cause us to stumble. I need to be more aware and alert of the secular dangers which satan throws my way, trying to rob me of my spiritual joy and my walk with Christ.

I must be mindful and also willing to side step those dangers by (1) avoiding improper reading and viewing material so easily available (2) asking God to put a watch on my tongue and (3) giving up the judgement throne to the One to whom it truly belongs.

What about you? Has satan been trying to trip you up lately? He is always at work to ruin God's best for us. Let's all be aware his plan, and do something to defeat it!
