Masking the OdorFor almost two months we have had a difficult time with an odor flowing through our air conditioning system. The problem began when we had our duct system cleaned, and it has not been completely resolved yet. The entire house has a moldy, musty obnoxious smell. I cannot mask it with deodorizing spray or by opening windows to "air out the house." Even cooking something with a wonderful aroma in the kitchen has a short-term effect on eliminating this problem. Many service technicians and even a supervisor have been to our home to try and remedy the situation. They have cleaned the mold off the vent registers on the walls, adjusted the fan speed on the main unit, replaced all seven filters in the system throughout the house, and rewired the system. There is still a lingering musty smell which I hope will be removed with our next service call tomorrow. Did you know that sin in our life leaves a trail of an odor which may be masked temporarily, but cannot be hidden forever? You may try to cover your wrong doings in a variety of ways. You may cover them over with lies or false pretenses. You may resolve to change your unhealthy lifestyles and habits by sheer will, only to discover this is only short-term. You may associate with a "better" class of people, move to a more prestigious neighborhood, or strive to make more money. The truth is that sin, or separation from God, cannot be cleaned from our heart by any other method than the one God Himself provided for us. He sent Jesus to our world to live and then die for our sake. It is because Jesus took our sins to the cross that we are free from their devastating destructive force in our lives. We only have to acknowledge this fact and accept His gift of love and life by asking Him into our hearts to live. Thank you, precious Lord, for removing the miserable odor of sin from our lives in a permanent manner. Although Satan tries to wedge it back into our lives all the time, you paid the ultimate price for us as you took our sin to the cross.
