Thanks, God!

With each passing year of my already twenty-year long marriage, I am more keenly aware of just how good God has been to me, and how thankful I am for all He has blessed my life with. Oh sure, there have been some low points, (okay, lots of hard times), but why focus on life's weeds, when its flowers are so much more fragrant and pleasing?

Today's Daily Wisdom does not contain any quaint stories or profound Biblical lessons. In fact, rather than for me to TELL you something, I am going to ASK you something.

I ask that you think about what you are thankful for.

Sometimes in life it seems like we are always looking for something; hoping to gain or profit in some way. Rarely, however, do we think about how we can give to others.

Saying thank you to those who have blessed us in some large or small way is a beautiful gift from the heart which doesn't cost anything, and yet, which is tremendously precious.

As parents, we remember to tell our children to pick up their toys, and not to forget to wash behind their ears, but when was the last time you told your little ones just how thankful you are for them?

As a wife, I know it is easy to remind our husbands to cut the grass, and to not throw their dirty socks on the floor when they come home from work, but think of how astonished your spouse would be if you turned to him or her while you sat on the couch tonight, and said, "Honey, I just want you to know that I am very thankful I am married to you!"

Think of how many people you can make smile today just by letting them know how much you appreciate them.

Did a stranger hold the door open for you as you entered the mall today? ("My, what a gentleman! Thank you!")

Did the driver in your left lane let you pass him? (Thanks a heap!)

Did a friend email you a cute poem or ditty? (Thank you for thinking of me!)

Most importantly, let us not forget to thank God for creating the world, and allowing us to live upon it. Let us thank Him for the gift of being a mother, father, grandma or grandpa, friend, sibling, and loving spouse. Thank Him for the food on our tables, and the roofs over our heads. Let us give thanks that we have clothes to wear and are reasonably healthy. Thank Him for our jobs, and our modern conveniences, because in some places of the world, there are people who have none of these.

Lastly, let us thank our heavenly Father for the free gift of salvation to all who believe in God and His son, Jesus Christ.

Thanks, God!
