Working Faith Makes The Difference - Message #317Faith in Jesus Christ is not just a fire escape from hell. Faith in Jesus Christ involves turning away from past sins. We call this repentance. It also involves a commitment to serve Jesus Christ as the Lord over your life. This combination of repentance for past sins and a new commitment to the Lordship of Christ results in changed lives. Changed lives come about because God gives the ability to repent of sin and to follow Christ. This ability is given in the form of the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is God's promise; "I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes" (Ezekiel 36:27). You see, any person who is given God's Holy Spirit also receives ability to repent of sin and to trust in Christ. Such a person has living faith, a "faith working through love" (Galatians 5:6). In other words, faith in Christ which is worthy of the name always displays itself in works of love and obedience. Jesus Himself tells us this. He says, "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments" (John 14:15). The point is, if you are a Christian, your life will show it. Your life will display a new obedience to Jesus Christ. You will realize, "Faith without works is useless" (James 2:20). Then you need to remain faithful.
