Better Than a Millionaire

Something wonderful has happened to me. No, I didnt win the lottery or answer the big question on WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE; something even better.

I've been a Christian for many years and I have to admit I've experienced times as dry as a desert. I'd sit in church and plan my grocery list. When I tried to read the Bible, it was like deciphering the ingredients on a box of cake mix. I was going through the motions that much of the time, had little meaning.

About a year ago, I lost my job after a corporate downsizing. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. With extra time on my hands and a broken heart besides, I turned to God's Word for answers.

Was I surprised to see how much God had improved the Bible! Suddenly it made sense. It was as if His words unfolded before me, every passage speaking to an area of my life. They became alive to me; as alive as if you were talking to me yourself.

I've learned a few things during this past year. I've found that God's Word is my searchlight and compass, pointing me in the right direction and illuminating my steps. I like to think of the Bible as a GPS signal, sending precise signals from somewhere high above the earth, showing me where I am and where I need to be. It is also my PDA, keeping track of what's important in my life and reminding me of things I might otherwise forget. It's my prayer book as I pray the Psalms and my hymnal as I sing to the Lord right from the Bible. It is my comforter and my therapist.

The sweetness of His Presence amazes me. Don't miss this awesome opportunity available to all of us. Pick up the Bible for yourself and start reading the New Testament. You'll be glad you did.

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." Psalm 119:105
