We Should
We should love God more We should give our all We should just let go We should hear no call But the one he makes To our busied ears Saying "I am God Keep your silence here"
We should close our mouths Let our tongues relax Let him take the weight From our bending backs As he whispers peace To our warring minds As he lays us down As he draws the blinds
We should walk away From the things we love We should be the pushed When push comes to shove We should lay our lives On the altar's stones Let the fire consume All our flesh and bones 'Til there's nothing left Of the life we knew We should be destroyed And be made anew
We should never think That our elbow grease Helps us bridge the gap Gives us perfect peace All our muscles tensed All our striving sweat Never could repay The enormous debt
It is only Christ And his dying groans And his poured-out blood And the displaced stone That can free our souls From the hell we've made From our constant sin Our self-killing blade
