Imitation

"But you have received the Holy Spirit, and He lives within you." I John 2:27

On a recent walk at The Landings at Skidawy Island, just outside of Savannah, Georgia, I did a double take at the ducks floating around. They seemed real enough, but a closer inspection proved they were just decoys. There are so many fake things around us today that it is hard to distinguish between the "real" and the fake". There are faux furs, imitation precious stones, silk flowers and plants, counterfeit money in circulation and many other imitations. The most disturbing to me was a fake snake my grandsons were playing with that looked all too real!

One thing that is not fake is a gift Jesus gave His followers. He told us that we would receive the Holy Spirit, a special present from Him for the time when He would no longer be upon the earth. The disciples and many others received this gift on the day of Pentecost. We still receive Him today, for the Bible tells us that The Holy Spirit is the one who lives within us when we receive salvation. Nothing and no one can imitate or fake His power within us. Besides this power from within, He gives us comfort, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. He is the wonderful third person of the trinity, and once you have His Holy Presence within you, it becomes obvious that no imitation for Him exists. He is the genuine item- absolutely, unequivocally and forever.
