Change Up

It's baseball season and, since I have five kids and a ball-playing honey, I have bleacher buns like nobody's business. I go to every game I can, but I have to admit that I don't always yell the right things. Is it "Swing batter" or "Pancake batter"? I get so mixed up. And I think I was the only one there the other night hollering for Daniel NOT to slide. Of course, I was also the only one there who had a personal stake in his clothing. I can't tell you how many pairs of those baseball pants we've said goodbye to over the years.

I wish I could tell you that this life never had to have any goodbyes in it, but we know that's just not true. Farewells can be so tough, but they're about change. And life is full of changes every day; sometimes welcome, sometimes really hard.

We can't always embrace change, but if we look to Jesus and determine that we'll persevere in His strength, then we can make it. We can rest in knowing that while things around us are changing, Jesus Christ is always the same. Hebrews 13:8 says, "For Jesus doesn't change; yesterday, today, tomorrow, he's always totally himself." (The Message) When we're resting in and trusting in the steadfastness of Jesus, we might even learn that there are some of those littler things that we can "let slide."
