Stuck in Jerusalem

"... you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8

For most of my life I have heard the term "the great commission". That's what we're supposed to do as believers, which is to share the good news ("gospel") with other people. It's based on a verse in the bible where Jesus was in Jerusalem (after God raised Him from the dead). Jesus was addressing his disciples just before He left the earth and went back to heaven.

I was thinking about this recently. I don't travel to other countries. I don't really even want to go away and do missionary work. So I wondered, "Can I be a "witness" if I never get to third world countries?

We have a large, immediate and extended, family. Not a huge family, but nice sized, and all living close by. We span four generations. Most of the family gatherings take place at our home and a lot of the family networking is done through me. Somehow, this seems to occupy the bulk of my time and I love it. Nothing in the whole world makes me happier than my wonderful family.

Of all the many blessings God has given me, my family is the greatest. And this is my "Jerusalem". The verse says first in Jerusalem - then (concentrically) to other places.

I'm pretty much stuck in "Jerusalem", and glad of it. What better place to share good news?!
