God's Eternal Team

"When you fed the hungry, gave drink to the thirsty, were hospitable to strangers, clothed the naked, cared for the sick and visited those in physical or emotional prison." Matthew 25:31-35,39,40

As a child, the teamwork I remember was during recess, when we played Red Rover, where children were chosen by team captains to be on their side. Today, the importance which is placed upon being a member of "the team" is something I find amazing. It starts with Pee Wee & Little Leagues, middle school and high school teams, which all lead to possibly getting on a college team with the hope of graduating to professional sports. To "make the team", the participant has to do something to exceed the athletic ability of others. There is a distinction between those who make the team, and those who don't.

The Bible tells us in Matthew 25:31-35 that this very scenario will transpire when the Son of Man (Jesus) comes into His glory, bringing all the angels with Him. At that time, He will separate the people, one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. Some will make the team; others will not. He will welcome on His team those who have cared for the needy, and He says, "what you have done for the least of man, you have done unto me." He will cast to the side those people who were too busy or self consumed to put others before themselves. To make the team of the Lord, we must put away selfish desires and put others first, as Jesus exemplified time and time again, particularly on the day He was crucified. When we think something is too difficult to pursue, or we don't have time to help needy people, we should remember these words of our Lord. I, personally, want to be on the team where the sheep are gathered. Will you choose to be a member of His team?
