Answers to Life

Isn't it completely bewildering what some people do when they're looking for God's will? What do you do when you're looking for life instructions? Ask your average-Joe-searcher how to find answers in life and this is what you might get:

The Top Ten Average Ways to Find the Answers to Life:

10. Ask Dear Abby, though a candid letter to Dr. Phil might work better.

9. Since reading tea leaves is tough with most of it either instant or bagged, try reading the bubbles in your French Vanilla Cappuccino instead.

8. Watch reruns of Star Trek Deep Space 9 until all the answers to all of life's questions in this particular space/time continuum become clear.

7. Animals know things. Write out all your possible life choices and show them to your dog. Stay away from the ones he buries.

6. See if you can make out Greek letters in the family room carpet fibers. The ones written with Sesame Street markers don't count.

5. There may be deep meaning in the patterns of play sequences of the St. Louis Rams' offensive team. You'll have to watch all the games to know for sure.

4. Surely your life questions were all addressed on Full House. They talked about everything. Fortunately it's on at any hour in any time zone.

3. Check with Randy, Paula and Simon. If Simon has something positive to say, be amazed and roll with it.

2. Examine the cat fur on the living room rug. Is there a subliminal message? (Disregard if the message reads, "You live to serve the cat.")

And the number one average way to find the answers to life: Internet.

Sadly, most of us have probably tried something similar to at least one of those average ways to find answers. I don't know about you, but I don't want to settle for average.

Where do we find above average ways to get the answers to life? Above! Colossians 3:1 says, "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above." As Christians who have been given a resurrected life in Christ, we need to find our answers for life in Him. Verse 2 says, "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things."

The earthly way of doing things is typically extremely below average. The Message puts Colossians 3:1-2 this way: "So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christthat's where the action is. See things from his perspective."

The answers to life are found in Christ. He spells out our instructions for living in His Word, not in cat fur or coffee bubbles. Look into the Word of God and keep looking above, no matter what Simon says.
