Living Life as a Sacrifice"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that can not be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe." Hebrews 12:28 It is quite hard at times for me to realize that I am the recipient of a great heavenly kingdom. The mansion filled with gold, the golden streets, everything I practically can imagine heaven to be like is what it will be. It was made for me. I want to be there one day, but I must live my life accordingly today. We must worship God with reverence and awe. Reverence means to show respect and give authority to. We must give reverence to God in our lives. Naturally, when we give ourselves reverently, we will willingly want to obey. Obedience is the product of belief. Romans 12:1 says, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of Gods mercy, to offer yourselves as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God." This is your spiritual act of worship. We must become a living sacrifice for God. We do not like the word "sacrifice" because it usually means giving up something. That is true in this case, but when we sacrifice ourselves, it leads to better things. In doing so, we will enjoy intimacy with our creator, with our family, etcetera. All good things come from God. The ultimate sacrifice was that of Jesus himself on the cross. His sacrifice showed the world the sin they were in, and gave them a way out. Sacrifice in our lives can do the same thing. I am not suggesting going and hanging on a cross anywhere in your near future, but daily living as a sacrifice. When Jesus was sacrificed, the end result was greater fellowship with the heavenly Father. Why don't we live that way today? Sacrifice the cup of coffee you spend exorbitant amounts of money on and give it to charity, sacrifice your only day off during the week and work in a soup kitchen. These are only a few examples of many things that you and I can do day in and day out to live sacrificially. The rewards will be great.
