Much from Little"... offer your bodies as living sacrifices... this is your spiritual act of worship." Romans 12:1 Recently I saw a show on television that challenged us to give what we have to God. I had to think about that. First, everything we have comes from God, so actually, we are returning it. Second, since God is God, He could take anything He wanted. However, the Bible teaches that the Lord wants us to give to Him of our own free will. Third, what did Ihave to give? In the Old Testament, there is the story of a widow who lived during the time of a great drought in the land (1 Kings 17:7-16). She did what the prophet, Elijah, instructed her to do. The barrel of flour, and jug of oil miracuolously lasted. The Lord continued to increase the small provisions, making much from little. She and her family were able to eat and live. There are two accounts in the Gospels where Jesus fed huge crowds with a tiny amount of food. (Matthew 14:17-21, Mark 8:4-9) How did that happen? Was it magic? One theory I've heard is that a few people shared what little they had; their generosity in turn prompted more sharing. The Bible explains how a child gave Jesus what he had, 2 fish and 5 small loaves of bread. The Lord multiplied it, making much from little, to meet the need. We can only give what we already have. The following is an incident shared by Corrie Ten Boom. A small boy was sitting quietly saying his A-B-C's. When asked, he said that he'd been told he should pray but he had never prayed in his life and didn't know how. So he was giving God the whole alphabet, and asking Him to make a good prayer out of it. I may not have much. I may have no money, or things that money can buy; maybe not a lot of talent or even much time. But I can give what I do have. How about my heart, my life; me? Can God take things like this that might seem little, and make much from it? I believe that He can. Today is a good day to give Him whatever I have. He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever, and He will make much from little- again.
