Balanced Diet

"The words of the Lord are flawless" Psalm 12:6

Our 21-month-old grandson has a very healthy appetite. Once in a while he will debate trying something new, but I have never seen him refuse any food offered to him. He is always willing to try. He eats heartily from all four food groups, cleaning his plate at every meal. He enjoys each, but seems to particularly savor the foods with sugar: "dessert." I think it is healthy and a blessing, that he partakes of the variety of food offered to him.

Likewise, God offers us spiritual nourishment. There are four food groups here, also, to my way of thinking. There are the Old and New Testaments, the Psalms and then the Books of Wisdom. If we partake of all the groups, we will receive a well rounded bit of nourishment. Sometimes I debate before dipping into some of the Old Testament books, or even Revelations, but I am willing to try- and end up "cleaning the whole plate"- with insights I have never discovered before. I have my favorite spiritual food group, just as Garrison has his favorite palate group. My "sugar", or dessert of the Bible is the Psalms. I have been comforted, encouraged and enlightened by this special book in the Bible, and I turn to it often.

Reading from all parts of the Bible is important. It will give us a well balanced insight on God's plan for mankind, and, more personally, His plan for my life and yours. Won't you start the new year off by staying in His Word each day?
