Trust Your Dad

As a parent, I know that when my children were younger, if one of them would have asked to drive our car at the tender age of ten, my response would, of course have been, "No way!" I also know that if our daughter had asked to wear makeup at age nine, I would have stated a firm, "No!"

As caring parents, our job is not to just shower our children with love and affection, but to also use our many more years of attained wisdom and experience to guide our little ones, steering them away from things which are harmful or unhealthy, and drawing them nearing to those things which are good for their well-being.

So, too, is God our heavenly Father, and just as no earthly parent gives in to all their child's whims, sometimes God also needs to tell us a stern "No", or "Not right now; when you are ready."

Think about those times when you may have prayed for great wealth and riches, or asked God to make someone fall in love with you who was not interested.

As our loving Father, God wants us to come to Him for all our needs and concerns.

Within my own personal prayers, I lay all my needs and desires in God's arms, but I also pray with a spirit of great trust because I know that God can see the bigger picture that I cannot. His awesome wisdom and power is greater than my own limited intelligence, and because I trust God's abilities over mine, along with my prayer requests I also add, "... but Your will be done."

As a person who loves God, I submit to His will over my own, even though there are times I may not always understand some of His decisions.

Several years ago I wrote a Daily Wisdom piece concerning how heart-broken I was after my first boyfriend and I broke up. I begged God to bring us back together, and it seemed like God had ignored my teary pleas. Years later, when I met and then married my husband, I realized that God did not turn a deaf ear to my request, but merely said, "No," because He saw the bigger picture that I could never possibly see on my own. Here it is twenty years later, and each day I thank God for giving me such a wonderful and devoted husband.

Trusting in God is not always easy, especially in this day and age of self-sufficiency. However, I would much rather trust God than lean toward my own sometimes unreliableinclinations, or leave my life up to mere chance.

If you are going to take risks, then take a chance with God. He will not disappoint.
