Daily Wisdom 02-22-2005 Viral Infections

It was hard to believe I had a virus in my computer files.I used anti-viris software and nothing showed up. People kept complaining that I was sending infected documents to them inadvertently. I used the anti-virus software a second time, but once again, nothing showed up.

Then someone suggested that I update my anti-virus software, because a new virus may have infected my files. I quickly downloaded the newer version and used it to try to correct my files. It was hard to believe that 34 of my 7404 files had been infected with a virus.

Now you may assume that was a very small percentage of infected files, in fact, a fraction of a percent. It is quite miniscule when consideringthat it was a mere 0.46%. Yet, I received many letters from friends suggesting I strongly do something as they were trying to open up my documents I was trying to send them. They understandably did not want their computer files infected by mine.

Our relationship with God is similar. Our human notion is to think that we are really not that bad. We don't kill people, steal, abuse drugs, drink excessively, or even hurt animals. At Christmas we may go to church or even sing "Jesus Loves Me" now and then.

Similar to that computer infection scenario, even if we are infected by the sin virus just a tad, we still don't line up to what God's standards are. So we need to update our situation, not with a anti-virus software, but with the life-saving technique offered in the form of the baby Jesus Christ, who came to seek us out and align us with God. We cannot do it by ourselves. We need an outside source, the Savior, who died on the cross so that we could enjoy a life in tune with God's will even though we may still have the viral sin characteristic continue on.
