Communications Default

"Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. 7Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down." Philippians 4:6,7 (The Message)There they were, as big as life, those annoying words right on my computer screen. What in the world was wrong? Why wouldn't my email go through? I just had to sign off, close down the computer, and try again later. Annoying, but acceptable.

The dictionary defines communication as "the exchange of thoughts or message", and default as "the failure to perform a task". That certainly defined my problem of the moment, but I began to wonder if I have other communication defaults in my life. Many times I have made a statement to my husband, and he has completely misunderstood it. That is a problem! Also, the same scenario has happened with my children. Actually, this has happened with many people I know, making me wonder about my communication skills.

The good news is that my communication line with the Lord is straight and true. I know He never misunderstands me or only partially listens. When I pray, I know He is giving me His full attention. I pray out loud sometimes, through song sometimes and silently quite often. In the Bible, I Thessalonians 5:17, we are told to pray without ceasing. That means keeping God in your mind and running all of your thoughts, delights and desires by Him. The results: pray, and the promise is (Philippians 4:7 God will give us His peace. That is a wonderful promise from God to us, and one I want to be foremost in my life. How about you? Today is the first day of the rest of our lives. Let's keep God involved in our lives today- through continuous prayer.
