Esther's World
For Esther, this is what used to be: Instead of a bent over, silver-haired lady, unable to remember the subject of her last conversation, she was a beautiful, vivacious woman with five lively, young sons of whom she was very proud, and a pastor-husband who esteemed her highly and loved her much. Looking at her now, one can't see all the wonderfully delicious meals she has served, or all the beautiful flowers shegrew and shared with others. They can't see the organic vegetables she and her husbandraised and took to the homes of the sick in their community. Nor can they see the tears she shed while her husband was off at war for two long years during World War II while she was at home with their sons waiting faithfully for his return. Through all the episodes and scenarios of life, and all the ebb and flow of it, Esther remained steadfast in her faith in God. As I see her now, sitting there, gazing out the window, I know that she is seeing past the trees and the squirrels; she is seeing all those beautiful and precious scenes of the past. No, looking at her now one cannot see it, but Esther's life has been very worthwhile, and her eternal future is bright and secure because she trusted Christ as her Savior and served Him with all of her strength and all her heart.
