Needed: Honesty #280Professional people, attending a Harvard Business School seminar on ethics, were given a standard for behavior. Don't do anything that will get in the newspaper. Publicity is bad. What about the conduct that causes the publicity? The best advice is simply, don't get caught. This is a far cry from the honesty and fidelity that homes and societies need in order to function smoothly. If you can cheat and not get caught, is it really okay? Is this what marriage is all about? Is this what family life is all about? If you lie to your parents and don't get caught, is it really okay? Is this what business is all about? If you cheat on your expense account and don't get caught, is it really okay? No, it is not alright. One of the Ten Commandments in the Bible states, "You shall not steal" (Exodus 20:15). I know, some folks can't stand morality being shoved down their throats. So be it. If you don't want to live by God's commandments, as many people don't, you can expect more cheating in schools, more cheating in marriages and more cheating in businesses. Can you live with that alternative?
