Luther and Justification #049Martin Luther was a deeply religious man. He was concerned about the salvation of his soul. He became a monk. With all his might, Luther tried to earn his salvation by his good works. He was as people today, who are always ready to lend a helping hand. Then they say, "Well, if I don't get to heaven, it won't be because I didn't try." Then Martin Luther found from experience that "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). He did not know how to escape the heavy burden of guilt he felt. Then he began to read the book of Romans in the Bible. Romans 1:17 gave Luther his answer. "The just shall live by faith." Luther had tried to earn his salvation by his good works. Now he realized that people are not saved by their works. People are saved through faith in Jesus Christ. What about you my friend? Have you learned this lesson? Or are you still clinging to your good works as Martin Luther did? Don't trust in yourself to get to heaven. Trust in Jesus Christ.
