Christ Our Priest #121Who do you think of when I give you the word priest? You most likely think of a man in a clerical collar. Do you think of Jesus Christ? Probably not! But why? The most obvious reason is that you do not think of Christ as a priest. A priest performs sacrifices. Christ was a man who went around doing good and then was put to death on a cross. That just shows good guys don't always win. Wait a minute. Christ did perform a sacrifice. He offered the ultimate sacrifice. He gave Himself. Yes, Jesus was betrayed into the hands of those who crucified Him. But He reminded His disciples, "Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and He will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?" (Matthew 26:53) The point is, Christ determined to go to the cross. Christ went to the cross to sacrifice Himself for the sins of people like you and me. Because Christ was God in Human form, He was perfect. He was "tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin" (Hebrews 4:15). He could therefore offer Himself as a perfect sacrifice for sin. Christ did win. Christ was raised again from the grave! So the wonderful thing is that those, who trust in the sacrifice of Christ for their sins receive forgiveness from God; no matter how small or how large the sin may be. Have you trusted in Christ as your priest?
