Heavenly Genes
Marion asked, "Did you get that "pie gene?" "Nope, sure didn't." Apparently she didn't inherit it either, even though our mom had. As we kidded about our gene pool, a thought crossed my mind. The bible says we are created in the image of God, so, we have His genes. Remember that Amy Grant song from years ago, "My Father's Eyes"? In the very beginning of the bible (Genesis 1:27) it says "so God created man in his own image... male and female he created them." Through Christ we are adopted into the family of God and are "joint heirs with Jesus" as we travel along, I'm so glad that I'm a part of the family of God", as the old Gaither song proclaims. Paul said it this way, "you received the Spirit of sonship (or adoption)... Now if we are children, then we are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ: (Romans 8:15-17). Maybe I didn't acquire the pie gene. But I got something infinitely more important: heavenly genes.
