Your Commitment to Christ #025There are all varieties, types and levels of commitment. There is, however, one commitment every person, young and old, should have. It is commitment to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Commitments to athletics, to schooling and to your work will carry you to certain levels of achievement in this world. Commitment to Jesus Christ will not only bear you up under the burdens of this life, it will carry you into the life to come. That's far more important. Long ago a Roman jailer feared for his life because he thought all of his prisoners had escaped. He fell down before the apostle Paul and Paul's companion, Silas, and cried, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" "And they said, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you and your household'" (Acts 16:31). That jailer's commitment to Christ carried him through an immediate crisis. It also led him into the glorious presence of God in heaven. That's what commitment to Christ does. It makes the pains of this life tolerable. More importantly, it opens the gates of Heaven. Have you committed your life to Christ? Have you confessed Jesus Christ as the Lord over your life?
