Grace and Contentment #366

There is a lot of Christian bashing going on in the media and among intellectuals. Strange. I was taught the pilgrims came to America to escape religious persecution. Now the Christianity they brought to these shores has fallen into disfavor. At the same time, the editor of US News and World Report ends a weekly editorial with these words. "The nation's hunger for public commitment to social and moral betterment is not simple nostalgia for the simplicities of yesteryear; the clock cannot be turned back. It is a profound and anxious desire to arrest decay. But if the dysfunctional trends continue, that anxiety will turn to fear, and even panic. When fear comes to dominate social policy, reason and tolerance are at risk. That is our predicament." What brought on the profound social decay which produced so much anxiety and fear? The expulsion of Christianity from public life is at the root of it all. Christianity has always fostered social and moral betterment. True Christians have always fought on behalf of the oppressed. Christianity has always been at the forefront of education and health care. That's why the better part of our colleges, universities, and hospitals were originally church-connected. The rejection of Christianity fosters greed and a profound lack of contentment which leads to crime and violence. There is much need in our nation to return to the principles of righteousness, justice and forbearance. This is possible through a return to an understanding of the grace and mercy of God, through a return to Jesus Christ and through a return to solid Christian principles.
