Man's Immediate Need #090

A lot of people want to know what the future holds. They practice astrology and read the daily horoscope. Other folks are asking why we are here and why the world is here. To find some purpose and meaning to life...they are looking for a valid interpretation of life. They are looking for an authority to give them direction. In the beginning, God gave the first man and woman, the kind of direction and purpose for living that men and women are looking for today. God also gave Adam and Eve a glimpse into the future. How did God do this? God spoke to Adam and Eve. God gave them His word. First of all, God outlined their duties in the world He had created. God said, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule.... over every living thing that moves on the earth" (Genesis 1:28). In other words, God gave Adam and Eve the privilege of ruling this world for Him. Their goal was to build a society in this world that would honor and glorify God. God also told Adam and Eve, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day; you eat from it you shall surely die" (Genesis 2:16-17). This was all our first parents needed to know about the future: obey God and live. You see, God spoke to Adam and Eve. God gave them His word. Did you know God has also spoken to you? He has! God has spoken to you through His word found in the Bible. Today, God's word in the Bible gives you the direction you need. It also tells you all you need to know about the future.
