Hootenannies

Music is a function of the spirit, body and soul.Personal preference for music is as varied as the styles of music today. Music lives in our hearts and affects our the way we live. How did you learn how to spell encyclopedia or even the the alphabet itself? Music just gets stuck in our heads and follows us around all day and beyond! The songs of a community or a people group serve as a portable history book. To hear a song from the past can evoke emotions that transport us back to that time. Haven't you have heard a couple say," Honey, theyre playing our song," as they reminisce? When I was in college, my favorite events were the "Hootenannies."

We gathered on the lawn and sang along with whatever group was performing - we all knew the words or we pretended to. Peter, Paul and Mary came one weekend - now you know how old I am! Still today when I hear certain songs, I am transported back in my mind to remember the fellowship we had as we all were "on the same page of music." A pastor once said that if you write a song right, people will sing it forever! Today, try this - take a favorite scripture and put a little melody to it as you go through your day. It doesn't matter if you are an accomplished musician or if you think you can't carry a tune in a bucket! The Bible tells us to "make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise (Psalms. 98:4)." Today, give your highest praise to God which is what hallelujah means in Hebrew!
