A New Heart

"And I will give you a new heart with new and right desires, and I will put a new spirit in you..." - Ezekiel 36:26Have you ever went clothes shopping, and just for the heck of it, even though you probably can't afford it, you try on the most beautiful outfit?You stand in front of the mirror, admiring how well the outfit fits in all the right places, and how the color is just the right shade. For those few minutes, you feel like royalty! The salesperson then walks over, and asks, "Can I wrap that up for you?" "Oh no," you say with a flush of embarrassment, "I am just browsing." You then slowly remove the stunning outfit, and slip back on your worn old jeans and comfortable sweatshirt.

If you can relate to the above situation, then you have a better understanding of how God can wash away our past sins so completely, that we are then spotless and glorified! He does not give man a new set of clothing, but He CAN provide us with a new heart, and desires which are befitting of His goodness. No longer do we shuffle about as people tainted and steeped in sin, but our sheer desire for godliness, and the calling upon the Lord to help us attain that goal, allows man to be renewed!

"How can this be?" you may say. "I have been this way for so long, and tried to stop, but was unable."

Alone, we may be weak, but with God at our side, we can do all things! What may seem impossible to man, can be possible with God!

I can say this with certainty because, in my life, I have tasted both sin and goodness, and I know that the path which sin sits upon leads to destruction. However, when I repented of past transgressions, God placed in me a new heart, a heart that no longer found sin sweet or desirable, but a bitterness to my very bones. I look back at that time, and I realize that I am no longer the same person. Indeed, God gave me something very new.
