Potholes in the Road

Hebrews 13:5 God said “I will never fail or forsake you.”The access road we took that rainy night was nightmare for any driver. It had speed bumps to protect against those with a heavy foot and broken sections of asphalt from wear and tear. Huge potholes, filled with rainwater, were everywhere. It was like driving on an obstacle course- trying to avoid all of the hazards. We wove in, out, and around as many as possible, but all were not avoidable. We took the speed bumps as slowly as possible, but we hit a few potholes with tires bouncing and stomachs in our throats. Some of the obstacles in the road were just unavoidable. Likewise, the road of life holds unwanted potholes, speed bumps, and scruffy pavement. If we pay close attention we will try to avoid as many as possible, but some will catch us sooner or later. The question is, how do we handle a pothole of life when it is unavoidable, as the ones on the street had been? When we experience an unexpected and unwelcome event, it can jolt us to our roots. We must just hang on, knowing it will end soon. And while we are down in the pit of it, we must pray, seek Godly council and remember God said “I will never fail or forsake you. ” We will come out of it victorious, ready to once again ride on smooth pavement.
