Remember When? These stories seem humorous to those of us who grew up before wash-and-wear clothes and microwave ovens. I remember black and white TV, 45 RPM records, 8-track tapes, Howdy Doody, Hop-A-Long Cassidy, The Big Bopper, -- well you get the idea. The point is that things that we took for granted or were important parts of our lives in the past may not mean a thing to our kids. Some things are better forgotten; but there are other things that are important for every generation to know. After receiving the Ten Commandments from God, Moses instructed the people, "Listen, Israel! The LORD our God is the only true God! So love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, and strength. Memorize his laws and tell them to your children over and over again. Talk about them all the time, whether you're at home or walking along the road or going to bed at night, or getting up in the morning. Write down copies and tie them to your wrists and foreheads to help you obey them. Write these laws on the door frames of your homes and on your town gates." -Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (CEV) These words were not just for the children of Israel. They still apply to us today. Do you hide God's Word in your heart by memorizing verses? Do you talk about the Bible with your kids? Do they know why you chose to become a Christian? Take time to share the things of your generation with this generation and the next generation. Tell them about walking two miles to school in the snow, going to the outhouse, watching Roy Rogers and Captain Kangaroo, listening to Herman's Hermits or Neil Sadaka. But most of all, tell them about God's Word and what it means to you. By the way, I still have an 8-track recorder in the closet if you need anything copied from a CD.
