Shoe-maniaI found black heels, black pumps, black flats, black casuals, black loafers, black boots - even black tennies. And those were just the black ones. There were equally impressive numbers in every other color. I ran across shoes in greens, purples, blues, reads and who knew there were so many different shades of tan? I found shoes in hues and styles without even an outfit to match. It was bizarre. I even found lonely, mate-less shoes! Why was I keeping those? Can you picture me stylin' in a one-shoe look? It's tough to convey that fresh-off-the-runway appearance hopping on one foot. With that visual, I made myself get rid of the mate-less shoes. Progress. But there were still tons more. There were leathers, vinyls, plastics, fabrics - every natural and man-made shoe material you could think of - animal, vegetable, mineral! How in the world was I supposed to cram all these shoes into my new petite-sized closet? My husband suggested getting rid of some of them. That was, of course, crazy talk. Shoes are important. Shoe authorities say we need good shoes - many of us spend a good portion of our day on our feet. They say having a good foundation helps keep us up and running. Me? I mostly just want to look good. Shoes are a foundational part of a fashion statement. They complete a "look." Don't you just love it when you're sporting a new pair and someone notices? Knowing your feet look gorgeousnow that's satisfying! God's Word teaches us the importance of our spiritual shoes. I think we could call it the "soul" of our shoes, couldn't we? Whatever we call it, I want my spiritual shoes to get noticed in a whole different way. Beautiful feet to our Father are the feet of those who carry the Good News: Isaiah 52:7 says, "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation" The Good News is that we can have peace with God through the salvation provided in Christ. These are "good tidings" - it's news of joy! Sharing that joy with others multiplies our own peace and joy. It's a biblical way to reproduce satisfaction in lifeand it deepens our own satisfaction to boot! (Did I say "boot"?) Sharing the Good News is more satisfying than a bargain pair of shoes. Eternally more satisfyingeven more comfy! Our Savior is the supreme example of beautiful feet. His feet walked this earth to provide the Good News. It's interesting that his feet became their most beautiful as they were mistreated - pierced. It was his piercing that made the final payment on our salvation - and it gave us something incredible to tell. It's a privilege to tell it. So let's get our own shoes on and hit the road, sharing with those who don't know that they can have the same astonishing peace we've been given. If you're leaving out the "sharing Christ" part of your spiritual life, you're missing something special in your walk with him. It might make your walk a little like a one-shoed hop - off-balance. Sharing the Good News is foundational for completing our spiritual "look." It keeps us "up and running." That's why I've decided to concentrate more on my spiritual look and maybe (gulp) get rid of some of my spare shoes. I think I may have enough to start my own business. Oh well, "there's no business like shoe business."
