Hear That?

Our two-and-a-half -year-old grandson has a new habit which I think is so cute.He puts his little hand behind his ear, cocks his head, and says "hear that, Nana, hear that?" It may be the sound of a jet plane flying high above us, the air conditioner turning on, a cricket chirping in our basement, or one of many loud or soft noises we hear during the day. He is so intent on listening,as he cocks his head and puts his hand behind his ear to listen.

This was a wake up call for me, reminding me I need to pay attention to the sounds of God. In nature, they range from loud to soft- invoking fear or delivering beauty. They can come in whispers of right and wrong in my mind, or can almost slap me in the face with a friends' admonition concerning a certain subject. His sounds can speak thru a sermon, a billboard, or hearing His Word. His sounds can sooth us when we are frightened and fearful, or can correct us when we are on the wrong path. Sometimes, He even sends His sound of silence. Then, we must wait.. believing He will soon send a more verbal announcement for us to listen to and follow.

I think the question is: not as my grandson asks, "Hear That?" but "Are you even prepared to listen?" May God give us the desire and the wisdom so that our spiritual ears would be open.
