Testimony of God's Glory

In a recent Daily Wisdom I refer to these last fewyears as the most difficult in my life. For privacysake I did not go in to great detail, however, now thatthis period is thankfully over I would like to share mystory with you so that God's glory may be revealed.

My son has a medical condition which, in the last fewyears, began to exhibit itself in more than just thephysical realm. Dealing with a hormonal teen is trickyenough at times, but add to this a very real medicalproblem, and the mix can be volatile due to the factthat while Mom is busy being a parent who is justlyconcerned for her son's health, our now seventeen yearold son who wanted to exert his independence, wanted nopart in maternal or paternal nurturing. The end resultwas conflict which drove our entire family to the brinkof daily emotional exhaustion. Upon doing everythingrecommended by the medical community, our son thenmoved in with his grandparents, which allowed himseveral months to think about his past, present andfuture, as well as what place his family would have inhis life. During the most turbulent period he insistedhe didn't need us anymore.

Throughout the whole ordeal, despite the fact Idisagreed with many of his behaviors and actions, Icontinued to offer my son unconditional love. Sincethere was nothing further I felt I could do on my owndue to my limited human capabilities, I then placed theremainder of the situation in God's hands, asking theLord to watch over our son, and to allow love to healany wounds. This was a tall order to fill, yet Icontinued to cleave to my faith, trusting that whereman may fail, God can succeed.

I did not know it at the time but my many emails to myson during this phase did not go wasted. Rarely did hewrite back, but my words did take root in his heart, and slowly but surely, the power of love overcame allelse. We began to then schedule visits with each other, doing such fun things as swimming, trips to the mall, dinner at a restaurant, and the most surprising waswhen he offered to teach me how to play ping pong, something I had never done before! We laughed andtalked, wholeheartedly enjoying our time together. Shortly before Christmas, he presented me with twogifts which meant more to me than any earthly riches ofthe world. Both gifts were necklaces; one was arhinestone-encrusted heart pendant, and the other was agold cross. Tenderly he placed the heart around myneck; a symbol of love and affection. The cross heplaced in my hand, knowing full well that this too wasa very special symbol for me as well. Of course, tearsstreamed down my face, and I knew that everything wasgoing to be ok.

Since that time, our son has moved back home in notonly a healthier frame of body, but mind and spirit aswell. I feel a sense of improved wholeness now, afeeling I did not possess when our family wasunhealthily divided. I know that one day this youngman of soon to be eighteen will leave home for good toexplore the world on his own, but I cannot thank Godenough for being there for me when I needed Him most. God spoke to my heart and told me to continue to loveand pray no matter what, and that is what I did.

In like manner, our Heavenly Father does not easilygive up on us as well. Circumstances may seem utterlyhopeless, but with God, nothing is impossible.
