You're Precious

Visiting my daughter's home a few weeks back, I watched from the window as her husband, Brent, used a chain saw to cut down some tall pine trees at the rear of their property. The trees had died during a summer drought and were in danger of falling. As I was leaving I went out to talk to Brent a few minutes. My granddaughter, Kaitlyn, wanted to go see her father too, and followed me out into the backyard. I scooped her up and put her on my shoulders to piggyback out to where her dad was working. He shut down the chain saw and we talked a few minutes. I started to take Kaitlyn back to the house. As Brent returned to his work, Kaitlyn said she wanted to watch. I agreed to take her to the deck which was a safe distance away.

Before Brent fired up the chain saw again, I wanted to impress upon her the importance of staying a safe distance away so the trees wouldn't hit her when they fell. After explaining to her that there was danger and we didn't want a tree falling on her, I wanted to be sure she understood. She said, "Yes Papaw."

To again enforce what I had told her I asked, "And why are you supposed to stay here?"

Without hesitating, she replied with a big smile, "Because I'm precious."

A three year old child may not fully understand everything we adults tell them. However, Kaitlyn is well aware that she is loved and precious in the hearts of those around her, especially her Papaw Keith.

God wants you to have assurance in that same knowledge of Him. God wants us to be childlike in our relationship with Him. He wants us to know that we, you, me, each and every one of us, are precious in His heart. When we're hurting. When we need forgiveness. Whatever our need. He wants us to come to him. You're precious.

1 Peter 2:3-5 If you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. As Living Stones And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
