Lifeline

Ecclesiastes 4:12 A three strand cord is not easily broken.Again, I have been granted the opportunity to see my unborn grandson through the modern age technology of the ultra sound. As each preceding time, my eyes would well up with tears, as the miracle of a precious little life was displayed before me.

During this viewing, however, the doctor showed us something I hadn't seen before. The umbilical cord, the lifeline between mother and child, was displayed in color. It is made of three parts- two arteries and one vein. How amazing to see this life line at work,,, within the uterus of my daughter! I like to think of the three parts as mother, child, and God Himself.. all involved in the formation of this new little life.

I was reminded of the passage in scripture- Ecclesiastics 4:12, where Solomon tells us that a three strand cord is not easily broken. He is talking about strength between two friends in the previous verses, and then he mentions this third strand. I believe the third strand he is referring to is God. He is the extra- the ingredient which we need to fuse our relationships as we live this life. He is the third strand which will keep us from snapping as the tugs of life pull on us. He is the divine author of life, so who better to hold us together?

I am so thankful for the opportunity I had today, and especially for the color technology which enabled me to see my grandson's lifeline to my daughter, as well as reminding me of His Word.
