Referred Pain

Micah 7:19 God pardons sin and forgives and will hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.Not long ago my mother in law went to the doctor because she had biting pain in her thigh. The final diagnosis wasthat she had severe arthritis in her hip, and the pain in her thigh was something the doctors' call referred pain. The actual site of the problem was not where the pain showed up.The same can happen in our emotional life. Emotional pain may express itself in a deferred area. The root of our pain may stem from grievances far in the past. You may have been deeply wounded by parents, siblings, your spouse, employer, co-worker or even your church or minister. You may have had fractured relationships, addiction, abuse, harsh criticism and broken dreams. These underlying causes may manifest themselves as always having a negative point of view, being harsh and abrupt, showing little patience, being discontented with life, or perhaps even displaying a violent nature. I am sure there are other manifestations of referred emotional pain, also.We must move beyond the pain, for it hinders our life and bogs us down with unwanted and unnecessary baggage. If you need the help of a counselor , minister, priest or rabbi, don't delay. Do it soon. But be sure to ask God for the grace to let the painful past go- once and for all. The Bible speaks to this issue . Colossians 3:13 says to "forgive whatever grievances you may have one against the other. Forgive as you have been forgiven." Good advice from the author of the Book with the greatest wisdom - our Holy Bible.
