Celebrate Your Hope #144

The most important Christian holiday, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is upon us. But in our scientific age, with all our technology, it is hard for us to believe in the bodily resurrection. Most scientists look at our bodies as machines. We do not have souls, which animate and give life to our bodies. And so there is no after life. When the machine breaks down, you discard it. I believe this is the thinking behind cremation. Cremation is a simple, inexpensive way to get rid of the unrepairable machine of our bodies. In a scene from Star Trek, the Next Generation an alien died. The question was asked, "What do you want us to do with the body?" And the answer by the dead alien's friend was simple. "Do with it what you will. It's just an empty container." In other words, our bodies, once dead, can be thrown on the rubbish heap. They're like crushed pop cans thrown by the roadside. This is an empty view of life. People don't know from where they came! They don't know why they exist. And they don't know where they are going. Why? Why? Why? What are the answers to these nagging questions? We came from God, the Creator. We are given purpose in this life by God. And each one of us has an eternal destiny. Death does not end it all. How do we know this? Jesus Christ, the crucified Son of God, was raised from the dead? And there is a great proof of the resurrection. It is the change in the lives of the disciples. These men and women were changed from a fearful band to bold representatives of Christ ready to lay down their lives. This change is a well-documented historical fact. And it stems from the disciples seeing the risen Lord. Isn't it time for you to seriously consider the bodily resurrection of Christ?
