Thirty Pieces of Silver #221

People kill for money. And there is always an economic side to the treatment of people with dread diseases like cancer. If the money is not available through personal wealth or insurance or coverage, treatment is not readily available. And the cancellation of an insurance policy is like signing a death warrant. Teens are caught up in this too. There have been murders for designer jeans and high priced athletic shoes. But why is there such little value placed on human life? Answer: There is a lack of eternal perspective on life. People think that when we die, that ends it all. And so it is cheapened. But eternity looms ahead. There is an after life! In that after life there is either heaven or hell. And so, if we put money over life, we are liable to wind up going in the wrong direction. Judas Iscariot is an example. He denied Christ and betrayed Him. Judas was a member of the inner circle of twelve disciples. Yet he was willing to sell out his Lord for the pitiful sum of thirty pieces of silver. The money was more important than life. Judas saw little value in Christ. And so he rejected the way to eternal life. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me" (John 14:6). And He went on to say, "Whoever seeks to keep his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life shall preserve it (Luke 17:33). In other words, if we seek to preserve our lives in this world by placing money over Christ, we can loose our lives eternally.
