God is Light #220It's an innocent way of being involved in the dark side. But is it really innocent? Most people think so! But a school in my area banned the celebration of Halloween on its campus. The school board did not like the emphasis on evil. But you should hear the complaints. Parents want their children to be able to act out evil and play the devil. But what does the Bible say about all of this? Interestingly enough, God did not want the children of Israel involved in the occult. Listen, "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. . . . You shall be blameless before the Lord your God" (Deuteronomy 18:10-13). But why would God be displeased with dabbling in the occult? One simple reason. The occult represents darkness. On the other hand, "God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5). And so it makes sense to stay away from the occult. The devil and witches do represent darkness. And so it makes sense not even to pretend to be what God forbids!
