A Woman's View of Love

When I reflect on my life thus far, the times in my life I felt most loved was when I felt most safe.I suppose, as a female who is said to be the weaker of the sexes, feeling safe, secure and well-protected is a facet to our genetic makeup. After all, long ago, women relied on men to hunt and skin animals for food, to build their home from massive trees cut down by hand, and to simply be a pillar of strength and character; an example to God and family.

My relationship with my father was no different. As a daughter, I looked up to my father, not just because he was over 6 feet tall, but because, when he was near, I knew everything was OK. He and I would often go for walks in the thick woods near our rural home; him carrying a hand-carved walking stick near his side which I assumed was used to beat any deadly beasts along the way, and I would act as his tiny shadow, listening with great interest as he took his own mental walks down memory lane.

I admired my father due to his gentle and sensible nature, and ability to make those loved ones around him feel safe and secure.

My husband shares many of the same traits as my father, and when we first met, it was not long before I felt very secure in his presence. Almost eighteen years later, he is still my "rock."

I think it is important to know why we love those we love, and to understand who are the people we respect and admire in our life. Chances are, the qualities we admire or even pursue, tell a great deal about who we are as individuals, and where our priorities lie in the scheme of all things.

There is another person in my life who has been a constant source of strength, comfort and guidance to me, in fact, even more than any individual I have known. When times are good, I know He is always there to share my joy, and when tears well up in my eyes, He is there to comfort me. He is an endless source of wisdom and knowledge, and His strength beyond human comprehension. From day one He has been by my side to watch over and care for me, even at those times I may have terribly turned my back on him. Despite it all, he has always been there to forgive and offer the most loving mercy and kindness.

Out of all the forms of love I have known in my life, his love surpasses all, and it is within this love I feel safe and secure because I know, without a doubt, I am deeply and completely loved. In true love, there is, indeed, great comfort.

The individual I speak about is not spouse, parent, nor even the most attentive lover. His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and I invite you to experience His love today.
