The Turtle

Eph6: 13-Therefore, put on the full armor of GodThere he was, sitting on the bank of the pond, flippers and head extended, basking in the sun. Not a care in the world, until I got too close for comfort. I frightened the turtle and he immediately drew in his neck and tucked in his flippers. There, all the vulnerable parts were hidden and the hard shell was all the protection he needed. We all know that is nature’s way for a turtle to protect himself against predators, but sometimes people do the same thing.

We may be basking along in life when, in a blink of an eye, something frightens us. It may be an impending job loss, a health concern, a relationship gone sour, or a number of other problems. Do we just draw into ourselves and hope we have a strong outer shell to protect us? This is not effective, as any shell we may create can be battered and torn down by Satan's tactics. The good news is that the Lord has told us in the Bible that God gives us a shell. It is called the armor of God. It is strong, and will protect us from Satan's fiery attacks of fear, doubt, mistrust and confusion. We must remember to put it on each day, for unlike a turtle shell, it is not permanently attached to us.

I would suggest you post this scripture on your mirror or in your car until you memorize it. The method of memorization that worked for me was this:from head to foot helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, belt of truth, shoes of peace, sword of the spirit and shield of faith. May God bless you as put on His armor- our own personal turtle shell- each and every day.
