Frankly Fathers #316The old adage says, "You cannot legislate morality." Bah. Humbug. Why do we have laws against murder, rape and robbery? We legislate morality on a regular basis, as long as its politically popular. What about tightening up divorce laws? I see two problems. The me-first attitude is too prevalent. Self-centeredness rules. Money and pleasure are kings. Moms and dads want what they want yesterday. Today is too late. Second, the line between right and wrong gets lower and lower each and every day. We disposed of eternal truth a long time ago. We see easy divorce as right, no matter the grief or consequences. Two remedies are needed. The first is love, a much discussed but much abused commodity. "Husbands, love your wives" (Ephesians 5:25, Colossians 3:19). Heartfelt obedience to this command would go a long way. The second is a handle on unchanging truth. God says, "I hate divorce" (Malachi 2:16). We should too.
