The Quiet of the Morning

When it came time to my usual wake up call for my children to get ready for school, I paused and looked at the peace and calmness of their facesas they slept and how wonderful it was at that moment to just stand there and bask in the quiet of the morning. Knowing full well that as soon as their call to get out of bed came, the fury of the breakfast rush would begin. Noise, clammer, shouts of "where's my shoe?", and "Mom! Liz won't get out of the bathroom and I have to brush my teeth!" were about to begin. The serenity of the moment would be turning into the exclamations of the day, so I waited for a few extra moments and took a deep breath and prayed.

Each morning, each hour, each minute, our Heavenly Father also stands at the door to His Kingdom, waiting for us to wake up and listen to His voice calling us, ever so gently. He wants us to get up and get ready for the school of life in His presence; to enjoy the lessons and recess time that He has already prepared for us. How do we respond to His wake up call? Do we complain about getting out of our comfortable "beds" of worldly enticements? Do we run around looking for our lost spiritual clothing? Do we have the patience to wait outside the door when it's someone else's turn to be cleansed? Or are we so impatient that we turn our backs on coming to the magnificent breakfast that He has prepared for us?

Don't worry, though. God has patience for us. He will stand in the silence of our sleep and watch over us, enjoying our quiet time until we clammer out of bed to say "Good Morning" to Him. Then, what a glorious day we will have!
